Modern Display Christmas Party!!!

Here we are at the Modern Display Christmas party!!!

I was really surprised that we even had a party this year with the way our economy has been. I don’t know how they did it but our Special Events staff pulled off a cool party with last minute with a very small budget!!! The party was decorated in Nightmare Before Christmas decor! I must say...it's a little fitting for our company.

They even had the movie Nightmare Before Christmas playing on the big screen.
No alcohol was served at the party..…yet, people got a little bizarre. This is a picture of Taylor (the president of Modern) acting a bit silly in his lovely Christmas sweater.

We ended the night with a game called…knock the wall in the warehouse down??? I’m not sure if this was supposed to be fun for the employee’s or just free labor.

I think some employee’s saw this as a perfect opportunity to let out some built up aggression! Go Spencer!!!
Overall it was fun hanging out with all the gals of Modern Display!!!

The Modern CHRISTMAS TREE Tour

In addition to the Modern Display Christmas party a select few decided to start a new tradition of an annual TREE TOUR. We all caravaned around to everyone’s house to see how they decorated their tree this year. It turned out to be a lot of fun!

We started at Sarah's house:

Decorated in real gingerbread stars and earth tone colors. A great tree to kick off the tour!

House two: Matt's
For those of you that have had the pleasure of knowing Matt… you already know that he has GREAT style and his tree was defiantly a reflection of that. Red, green and silver ornaments gave his tree a very contemporary feel. Look how proud he is!!!
Little did he know that the "best part" was still to come;-)

Next stop...Ally cats:
We all felt the holiday spirt when Ally decided to surprise the group with a little holiday generosity and an abundance of affection! We were all very excited to get a taste of what Ally calls "the best part"......now, for those of you that didn't get to experance this first hand, I think that it's a combination of Sparkling Apple Cider, plastic champaigna glasses and an irrepressible urge to.......hug?!?

Thanks for being so giving during the holiday season!!!
Ally decided to combine Chocolate and Peppermint for her tree and it looked good enough to eat!
Great tree Ally!
Next Rachel:
The tallest and the only real tree on the tour. Rachel did a great job of filling this enormous tree with the finest Modern has to offer. Deep red, orange and burt anber really gave her tree a rich feeling.
Cute pose!
And Now for Jenny's:
I thought that Jenny had the most unique tree of them all! Who knew pink poinsettias and chocolate branches ='s very striking Christmas tree!!!
Love it Jenny!!
The tour got long and we all got a bit hungry and had to stop for a bite!
Wendy's....yummy!!!
Last but NOT least My tree!!!

50 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT ME...

50. I LOVE Lost the TV series –Joey and I watched the first three seasons in two weeks. Oh, and FYI season four comes out on the 9th, just in time to refresh before season five starts next year!

49. I HATE pumping my own gas!!! Sometimes I think that I would rather jus run out of gas completely then pull over and fill up. I hate everything about it, but most of all I hate touching the gas pump handle. I wish that we had the Union to do it for us like the lucky state of Oregon. Surprisingly this dislike has nothing to do with the price of gas.

48. I use to fake bake in the tanning salon- I use to go tanning every other day until I got a job at a tanning salon and could go for free, then I stopped.

47. I LOVE him rugged – I secretly miss the way my husband looked after working construction. I don’t know what it is but I don’t mind when the boy gets dirty!

46. I’ve made a doggy investment – Purchasing my little dogs was expensive but nothing in comparison to the money spent in keeping them alive. Small dogs come with major health risks and at this point I have spent more on vet bills then on the down payment on our home. At one point my dogs even had better medical insurance then me.

45. My first business venture was building floats – When I was 16 I went to work for Modern Display building parade floats for the fourth of July. Yes, Modern Display is a division with Modern Expositions who I’m currently working for.

44. I was a manager before I turned 20 – I started working for Sears Portrait Studio out of high school and worked my way up to Assistant Manager in six months. I held that position for a few short months before I replaced the current manager.

43. I drive because I have to, NOT because I like to – I really enjoy going on road trips and taking drives….only if someone else is doing the driving.

42. I LOVE watching guys fight – Hockey, UFC, Boxing even kids fighting in high school. I don’t know what it is but I can really get into a good fight.

41. I long for a SECRET ROOM – I would like nothing more than to have a secret room/passage way in my house. Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of having hidden doors that lead me to different places in the house that no one else knew about. This would be especially good for hiding from bad guys if they broke in!

40. I LOVE Sushi – This has to be on my top five favorite foods.

39. I was in hair shows – When I was dancing I got the opportunity to perform at hair shows. At one point I considered doing hair and traveling around to different hair expositions. The ironic thing is I am working in expos just not doing hair.

38. I have fallen asleep behind the wheel- My Friend Nikki and I drove down to Mesquite when we turned sixteen. After a long weekend of NO sleep we loaded up on Red Bull and headed home. We just made it into the canyons when I started to come down from my sugar buzz and started to drift off the road. I have never been as scared in all my life as I did waking up in the rocks on the opposite side of the highway. I must have had angles watching me that day.

37. I laugh at my own jokes – Sometimes I just find myself hilarious!

36. I met my husband when I was 13 – I feel lucky that Joey has been a part of my life so long, whether he’s a friend, boyfriend or my husband he is someone I always want in my life. I first met Joey at Lagoon after he asked me to ride on the Logflum with him.

35. I wrote a screen play – In Jr. high I wrote a screen play for a homework assignment and my teacher turned it in to the Scholastic Arts Museum in Washington DC. I was flown out to read my screenplay and accept an award. I wonder if it’s still there today!?!

34. I have never caused a car accident – Knock on wood! I have been in a few accidents but never one with me driving.

33. I don’t have my ears pierced – I’m allergic to metal and even with all the best attempts, I’ve yet to be able to have a piercing successful.

32. I hate peeling onions – I don’t see why they have to be a vital part of every dish. I cry every time!

31. I’ve never had short hair – I think that my hair is the shortest I’ve ever had it (the middle of my back) It was always my Mom forbidding it and now I just can’t cut it. Even through all the hair shows I made them promise not to chop my hair.

30. I once helped a transient – When I was little I found out that we had a homeless guy living in the field not far from my home. I decided that I was going to help him out so I loaded up a trash bag with pillows, blankets, food, soap, games and other random essential I thought he would need. I made a bed in the field by laying out all the blankets and displayed the other items around it. The very next day I rushed to the field to meet the guy I was helping, most of the items I left were gone. I never met the bum (thank goodness) but I was so proud!

29. I’ve never had braces – I did have a retainer.

28. I HATE touching paper – Okay I have gotten a lot better with this one but sometimes it will get me. It’s just some kinds of paper that I don’t like the feel of, mostly newspaper. Joey finds it funny to rub it on me when I least expect it….Ewwwww!

27. I LOVE to cuddle – Snuggle/cuddle…whatever you call it…I LOVE IT!

26. I prefer Coke over Pepsi – Who doesn’t!

25. I eat Lean Cuisine 4 out of 7 days a week - Yummy!

24. Christmas is my favorite holiday – I love everything about Christmas! I love spending time with the fam, the décor, giving and receiving gifts, and don’t forget the food.

23. I once had two pigs – Okay not farm pigs, they were Ginny Pigs.

22. I LOVE to cook – Don’t mistake this with baking. I want to be an amazing cook. I started having a dinner night with friends once a week so that the pressure was on to not only cook but do it well. So far it has been really fun and I have tried all kinds of new recipes.

21. I have had seizures – The doctors said they are caused by my hypoglycemia. It has only happened in public places and required a hospital visit every time.

20. I LOVE cartoons – Nothing better than watching cartons on weekend mornings.

19. I have always wanted an aquarium – I find something peaceful about watching fish in an aquarium.

18. I bought my first house when I was 22 – Owning our own house was one of my stipulations before getting married. I’m so glad that we did, I love my house!

17. I have never broken a bone – knock on wood.

16. I hate body hair – I hate to shave and I really want to get laser hair removal. Once I even plucked out every last armpit hair.

15. I love me a good mojito – I could use one now.

14. I can’t talk when I cry – This really sucks when giving a heartfelt toast or trying to get my point a crossed in an argument.

13. I got engaged in Disneyland - The happiest place on earth!

12. I can hold a grudge – If someone hurts me I can really hold them accountable. This has been a thing of mine since I was little. My Mom hated to be the one to put me to bed at night because the next morning I would hold a grudge and be mad at her even after a long nights sleep.

11. I wish I could sing – I love to sing but it doesn’t mean that other people like to hear it.

10. I took dance for most of my life – I wish that I never quit.

9. I LOVE roulette – Two years ago the fam went on a cruise and driving back we stopped in Prim for the night. I started playing roulette with $40.00 and left with more than the total vacation cost for Joey and I. It was a blast!

8. My favorite color is grey – I like red and black too.

7. LOVE the Drive-In Movies - One of my very favorite things to do in the summer! I think this is the biggest reason we haven’t sold Joey’s Blazer, you have to have the bed of a truck for the Drive-In.

6. I have acrylic nails since I was in Jr. High – I think that my fingers look stubby without them.

5. I’ve been busted! - An officer caught Joey and I making out in the park.

4. I have never been to Hawaii – It’s defiantly on my list of places to visit.

3. I don’t have any tattoos – despite the fact that my brother-in-law use to do them.

2. I’ve burnt a house down – When I was in Jr. High my family was forced to live in a Hotel for awhile while our house was redone. Okay, I didn’t really burn it to the ground but it did have enough damage to put us out for awhile.

1. I had a hard time with this list – try it yourself, it’s harder than it looks!

My friend Sarah at work tagged me with this fun Christmas edition of getting to know your freinds. All the gals at work passed it around and it was fun to see how differnt all of our answers were.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? For Christmas I would have to say WRAPPING PAPPER. Save the bags for last minute birthday gifts.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Seeing how I'm a total fire freak, I'm sticking with ARTIFICAL (flame retardant).
3. When do you put up the tree? After Thanksgiving

4. When do you take the tree down? In the first part of January.

5. Do you like eggnog? Yes, I do!

6. Favorite gift received as a child? My FIRST "BIG GIRL" BRA.

7. Hardest person to buy for? My Uncle Rob, he always gives such original gifts and I think that he has everything that he could ever want.

8. Easiest person to buy for? Joey, he is always giving me a list of things that he wants.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Nope.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I send most my Christmas cards by mail, I think I passed some out at work. I never email them, what fun is thatL

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? When I was about 15 I received a stuffed Barney, yes I am talking about the purple dinosaur.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I love the Christmas Story. Classic!

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Black Friday!

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not that I can think of, maybe for a white elephant.

17. Favorite Christmas song? Here comes Santa Clause. Oh, and Christmas Shoes.

Twilight!!!

Yes, I'm finally going to join the movement and read TWILIGHT!

I have been avoiding reading this book for so long even despite all the pressure from family and friends, however a friend got me a ticket to a private screening for the movie and so now I'm having a change of heart. You know that I can't be the only girl in the theater that knows nothing about....what's his name...Edward!?!

Why DID the chicken cross the road?

With all that is going on right now, everything is so intense. We need a good laugh and this worked for me. Enjoy!!!

BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a change! The chicken wanted change! The chicken needed change!

JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road...

SARAH PALIN: BECAUSE, PRAISE JESUS, I WAS GONNA SHOOT HIS SORRY LIBERAL ASS OFF FOR BLOCKING MY VIEW!

HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure right from Day One that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken. What is your definition of crossing?

AL GORE: I invented the chicken.

JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens.

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his current problems before adding new problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

JERRY FALWELL: Because the chicken was gay! Can't you people see the plain truth? That's why they call it the other side. Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And if you eat that chicken, you will become gay, too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless phrases like the other side. That chicken should not be crossing the road. It's as plain and as simple as that.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2008, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken2008. This new platform is much more stable and will never crash.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

A great game for even a greater cause!

Yesterday, along with some friends, Joey and I attended the second game in the three-game series between our Utah Grizzlies VS. Ontario Reign. In addition to this exciting game the E-Center was also hosting its third-annual “Pink in the Rink” game for breast cancer awareness. One of my favorite people in the world lost his mom in a battle with breast cancer and we were really excited to see all the support for such a great cause.

As I was watching the game I was thinking how cool it was to see our toughest guys sporting pretty pink jerseys and playing on a bright pink sheet of ice. It wasn’t long before I was looking into the stands at all the pink shirts and realizing how many of our friends and nabors have been effected by breast cancer. I think that it was great to have that opportunity to participate in such a great cause. They ended the exciting game with a post-game jersey auction and was able to raise over 18,000 dollars for the Susan G. Koman Cancer Foundation. I was so proud to see everyone so actively participating in the fund raiser and those just attending the game while showing support to all the survivors of breast cancer. Between periods they showed a tear jerking film of all the breast cancer survivors and their families and even gave a little shout out to all the people that “had the heart strength to survive breast cancer”. Next year I would like to see them also give recognition to the families with loved ones that lost the battle to cancer. My dear friends mom did lose her fight with cancer and I don’t think that it had anything to do with the strength of her heart.

After witnessing the intense game on Wednesday we were really excited to see how the second game was going to go, needless to say it didn’t disappoint. While I think that the Utah Grizzlies are awesome, the Ontario team has an amazing goalie and we need to play almost perfectly to get anything passed him. The grizzlies struggled for the first part of the game, trailing 2-0 until the third period. Just when I thought that the game was going to end in a shut-out, we went into our seventh power-play of the night and Murray was able to put it in with only 2 minutes to go. Murray’s goal was able to set a fire under the butts of the rest of the team and during the next power-play we were able to sink yet another goal past the Ontario goalie with only 19 seconds left in the game, this forced us into a four on four overtime battle. It was a great overtime, with us having five shots on goal we just couldn’t get it passed the machine they call their goalie. You know what comes next….SHOoT OuT! Ontario went five times shooting one-on-one with our goalie, Mike Mole but nothing sunk. We ended the game victorious after Sixsmith scored! M…O….L…..E, Mike Mole the grizzlies number one GOALIE! Goooo Grizzlies!

An Early Christmas

With the first major snow fall of the year came a realization that we are already into NOVEMBER, I’m not really sure what happened to all the other months of 2008! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by and we are already into the holiday season. Working for Modern Display Christmas usually starts around the end of September with elaborate trees, garland and even fresh wassill at the door.

Thanks to my friend Kimberly we got this great picture of an elf head…random.

This year in addition to all the Christmas lovers eye candy, our show room has a great player piano that has been playing us Christmas carols. Even though I don’t work in the retail store the music follows throughout the entire office. Others around Modern are ripping out their hair, me I’m just soaking it all in!

This Santa tree is a fine line between cool and just downright freaky.

These pictures don’t do the tree’s justice, some really are elaborate!

Utah Grizzlies VS. Ontario Reign

Last night we were invited to go to the Grizzlies game with our hockey friends Matt and Cassie. I guess we had never been to a game on a week night because I was shocked out how bad the attendance was. Look at all those empty seats!!!
I think that the poor turnout at these games has resulted in a rise in the already high prices for food and beer. Let’s help the diehard fans and support our Utah Grizz!

It was a close game but the Grizzlies pulled it out!
This Friday is Pink in the Rink, let’s help fight breast cancer with the Utah Grizzlies! We have gone to this before and it was a lot of fun, the Grizzlies and again the Ontario Reign will face off on a bright pink ice rink. This really is for a good cause, raising money and bringing awareness for “THE CURE” breast cancer foundation. After the game the players will auction off the PINK signed jerseys to help raise money.
If you are looking for something to do this Friday it should be a good game! Let's hope the turn out is better on a Friday night!

High Score!

We are all trying to find ways to spend quality time with Blake seeing how he will be heading back to basic training in only a few weeks. Last Tuesday we got together with Grandpa Bob for a night of bowling at Fat Cats Bowling Center. While we did have a blast bowling and filling our faces with pizza and those famous breadsticks, the highlight of the night was definitely the DRAGON PUNCH arcade game (basically a punching bag that records how hard you hit it). I think that we easily spent twenty dollars in quarters trying to get the high score…and then beating that score….and again beating the high score.

Joey and Blake took turns toping each other’s score, finally Joey was victorious in leaving with the high score and I think it had something to do with him having the last punch.

9061 the final High Score!

Meet the Bowers Bundle!

Let's make babies!!!
(A face only a mom could love)

Of corse every young couple wonders what their babies will look like.....I just decided to fast forward and see for myself, the results were frightning to say the least. I guess I can't really see the resemblance and I’m a little put off by the hippie...love child look. I guess we will have to wait and see if our kids look anything like this, but somehow I really doubt it.

I found this very amusing! Give it a try at makemebabies.com.

Welcome home Blake!

Last week the family flew down to San Diego to attend my little brother’s graduation (not so little anymore) ceremony and to celebrate his completion of basic training with the USMC. We are all so proud of Blake and his determination to do something great with his life.

Blake had quite a group supporting him… Heidi (Mom), Tyson, Jake, Grandma Julie, Doug, Steve(Dad), Jessica, Chantel, Grandma Berdene, Josh (best friend), Nick (friend), Jack, Robin, Joey and myself all attend the ceremony.

Blake was the squad leader so he was upfront at every event! Way to go Blake!!!!

Over 500 graduates that week!

We all went to Sea World the next day to celebrate with Blake.

Sea World had Halloween themed shows going all day!

Joey got some really great pictures of the marine life!

We had such a blast!!!
