Kenny Chesney

For my Birthday this last year Joey gave me tickets to see Kenny Chesney in concert.

It was so perfect because we have been trying to get Joeys sister up here for a concert forever.

It was so hot that day and the concert started at 5:30, so basically we all baked in the sun. Kenny come out just as the sun was going down...fitting seeing how he sings "everything gets hotter when the sun goes down.." What a blast!

SNOWBIRD

Joey and I really wanted to do something fun to celebrate our one year Anniversary. Taking so much time off earlier this month for the death of Joey’s Grandma we decided to stay close and just get away for a relaxing weekend up at Snowbird. It was the perfect little getaway, that weekend they had a music festival going on so we were lucky to enjoy great music everywhere we went. We had this great view of the mountains from our balcony, we just opened the doors and let the nice weather and good music flow in…ah, it was heavenly.

We spent the first night playing on the Zipline, Alpine Slide and running around Snowbird enjoying the festival. That evening we went back to the room where I was surprised with a bottle of wine, fruit basket and a certificate for a couples massage arranged for the following day. The best part of the gift was Joey explaining to me that the paper the certificate was made from represented the “Traditional One Year Anniversary Gift”. He also covered all of his bases by giving me a little keychain clock for the modern version. I love when Joey does things that reminds me of why I love him.

Poor Joey had to deal with trying to have fun and be romantic with his broken hand in a big blue cast. I even offered to carry his sled for him, however he stubbornly declined my offer.
Look at that face...I promise he was having a good time8)
The next morning we went out to breakfast before heading off for our couples massage, it was so relaxing. We spent most of the day taking advantage of the spa amenities and playing in the pool. It was a good end to the first year and a great beginning for the year ahead of us.

1 YEAR DOWN...

Last Sunday Joey and I celebrated our first Wedding Anniversary!!!
It's crazy how fast that first year goes. It is a little sad to think that the “honeymoon stage” is over but we are both really excited to see what this next year will bring.

Yet Another Hockey Injury!

Monday during Joey’s Hockey game he was hit in the back of the head by another players stick…leading him to rebuttal and a fight broke out (this is after all hockey we are talking about). Needless to say the fight ended with yet another injury. This time it's not a tooth or a gash to his lovely face, but a broken hand. The last few days have been trips to the Urgent Care, X-rays and seeing a specialist.
This will be Joey’s new friend for the next few weeks. Sorry love...no hockey for awhile. Don’t worry I insisted that he upgrade to the water proof cast so that it was hinder him from having a good time on our Anniversary weekend.

Virginia Getaway

The reason that we went to Virginia was primarily to assist/attend Joey’s Grandma’s funeral, however because the plane tickets were so expensive and we rarely make it out to visit the rest of Joey’s family we thought that we would stay for ten days and really make a getaway out of it.

While we were visiting we kind of bounced around to make sure that we were able to spend time with all of Joey’s family. The first couple of days we stayed at the Sheehan home. They had the most beautiful yard as you can see.
One of the Jobs that Joey had while there was to get all the boys ready for the funeral. He did a great job...considering the fact that he was using the horse clippers.
What would a vacation be without hanging out at the pool?!
Another cool thing about the house that we stayed at was the bees. Joey's aunt and uncle are bee keepers and we got to see what it was all about. Kinda cool!
This was Joey's uncle (Bob McDonnell) leaving the family events...what a sweet ride.

Party Boys!
We were staying so close to DC that we took one day and did a little site seeing.

We also stayed in this little river sack or “beach house” as the family called it. It was a little bit of a shock after spending so much time at the Sheehan home, however the place really grows on you and we ended up having a blast at the beach and catching crabs and jelly fish in the water.
The reason for the visit was a sad one...yet it was great to visit with family again!

Gardner Funeral

Joey’s Grandma Gardner passed away from an enlarged heart this last month. The entire family went out to Virginia for the most beautiful viewing and funeral.
Joey’s uncle Bob McDonnall (Attorney General and also running for Governor of VA) arranged a huge police escort for the funeral attendees.
The funeral music was all done by bagpipes, talk about powerful!! The highlight for me was when Joey’s Grandpa stood to sign one last song to his wife..how lucky she was to be so loved by so many.

Happy 1st Birthday Gabi!

This weekend we celebrated my God Daughter’s first Birthday. It was a lot of fun getting together with everyone for a little BBQ and some Lasso Golf.
The "perfect" gift
I love when I am more excited over giving someone a gift then the person receiving it actually gets.
Joey went to help me pick out a gift for Gabi, normally it is like pulling teeth to get any kind of input from him but this time he got pretty excited over the Fisher Price mail box set he found. I don’t know that Gabi thought it was the best gift in the world, but at least they won’t forget who gave it to her. It was so cute to see how excited Joey got as they were opening up his prize find.

I love my mail man8)

Trouble with a PIT BULL!

I couldn’t think of a good way to complain about my neighbor’s new pit bull puppy... so I put it in a poem.
Today I want to scream, cry and even throw a fit,
I looked into the neighbor’s yard and there I saw a Pit!

Although she’s just a puppy and is standing one foot tall,
I see her as a threat and I’m not liking this at all!

I don’t want her for a neighbor, not even just a bit.
While shopping for a dog why’d they pick a pit?

I hope she will stay in her yard and never learn to dig.
My dogs they are so small and she will grow so big!

To her my dogs are a chase to get a little beef.
I watch her chew on the fence just sharpening those teeth.

Will she start to jump high or even chew through steal?
I wana like this new dog but can’t help the way I feel.

I don’t hate all pits, I know that some are very nice,
Just having one so close feels like a roll of dice.

I don't wana take a chance or bottle up this fear
I had my dogs first and love them oh so dear!

So please keep your guard dog locked up nice and tight,
For if she gets out I’m afraid my dogs won’t be much of a fight.

God parents

Joey and I have been asked by our friends (David and Angelique) to be the God Parents to their little girl Gabriela Gonzales. Now neither of us is catholic, nor do we know the first thing about being god parents so we wondered why they would ask us. After talking with David and Angelique we were honored to have been asked. They explained to us that they wanted us to help guide Gabi in her life through our good example and love for each other.
Our first act of god parents is helping in the Baptism; again we don’t know the first thing about this. We attended a class with David and Angelique where we discovered that at least one of us had to be a member of the catholic church (again neither of us are) we just went along for the ride (aka said nothing) I think the Deccan started to catch on when Joey answered the questions “what happens if a baby dies before they are baptized?” with “Baptism for the dead?!”. David and Angelique assured us that everything would work out and it did.

The only hiccup that we had was during the ceremony the Deccan was mistaken in thinking that I was the Mother and that Angelique was the god mother. All during the Baptism I was playing the role as the mother, I even got blessed as the Mother. Again not having a clue as to what I was doing I just went a long with it.

Just look at the cute dress the Joey picked out for her. Gabi is such a cute little girl and Joey and I are blessed to have her in our lives. Also just an FYI Joey would prefer to be called “THE GOD FATHER” now.
After the church ceremony we had a BBQ for Gabi, Oh good times.

Our Little Getaway

For Christmas my aunt and Uncle gave us a weekend getaway stay in their condo in Midway. Since we had the anniversary of us being together for nine years we thought that it was the perfect time to use it, okay, we really needed a getaway from living under construction. It was a blast! The first night we went to this little Mexican restaurant that had a live band and yummy margaritas. Other than that we mostly bunkered down and pretended to be snowed in.
The condo was fully equipped with a kitchen and grill so we decided to go get some food and dine in the rest of the time. The weekend was so relaxing and consisted mostly of yummy food, good conversation, and cuddling by the fire. The view from our deck was amazing! We even had little visitors during the day.
Thanks Garrett and Kristy, what an awesome gift!

Men’s Hockey League

Men’s hockey summer league just started and we have already had our first pregame of the season! We were up 3/1 against the Stars for most of the game…until the last period when they came back and tied us 3/3. Since it was only a preseason game we weren’t that broken hearted about it.

This season is going to be different as many of the regular players on our team have jumped ship, including my cuz Kris and our good friend Matt (tear). We have lots of new players on the team this year including our goalie. It’s too early in the season to really tell how the new team is going to play together. Even though we lost a few of our really good players to a division one team I am hopeful that we will still take it this year! Go Hitmen!!! We ended the night with a yummy BBQ in the parking lot…my favorite thing about the summer league. Thanks to Keith...the BEST manager/team captain ever;) Sad, that this is his last season in charge.

Joey and his team love to have fans in the stands…open invite to anyone that wants to come and watch him play. This league plays on varies night, times and locations. Call if interested!
Fun Fact:
The first testicular guard "Cup" was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. It took 100 years for men to realize that the brain is also important. ;-)

No Doubt!!!

It’s no doubt that we had a good time last Monday for my friend Mayra’s birthday…however some of us had more fun than others. The plan was for an all girls night out including dinner and drinks at the Puck Bar and Grill followed by the No Doubt Concert at the E-Center. I love my girls and I knew that we were going to have a blast!

The Puck was fun, I got to meet some of Mayra’s friends from work and we all enjoyed some drinks…Cassie and I discovered a new grape vodka that is delightful;) Afterwards we went off to the concert where we had general admission seating. Opening for No Doubt was The Sounds and Paramore they were great! We were all packed in like cattle but we still managed to dance and have a good time.

Now some of my friends are…well…short and they wanted to make their way to the front so that they could see Gwen Stefani up close…NOT A GOOD IDEA! Apparently other people didn’t want Mayra and her sisters to see up close and started a fight with them….I won’t go into details as to how the rest of the night went for them but, I will tell you that it included tears…bruising… cops…handcuffs…crazy lady who peed her pants…and even Jail! Those of you that know Mayra will have to get the juice from her! Happy Birthday Mayra it sucks that we aren’t all still 17!

As for Cassie and I we ended up getting separated from Mayra and the rest of the party so we really had no clue what was going on with them. We spent the whole night dancing away without a care in the world! Next year….maybe something a little more low key?!

All the bands were good but Gwen Stefani ROCKED the house!!!
